SUSTAINABLE & ZERO WASTE SKINCARE FOR GLOWING SKIN
We may have enjoyed some of our time in iso, truly adapting to the life of staying indoors, making sweatpants our uniform, forgetting what day it is and leaving our hair in a top knot for, ummm…how many days has it been now!
I don’t know about you but our skin has not been such a fan of this new routine. A change in routine has let our skincare habits slip leaving our skin feeling congested and lackluster. It’s got us thinking though – how sustainable is our skincare and can we give our routine and overhaul to adopt zero waste skincare into our lives?
Trends in skincare have seen the industry advising a routine involving dozens of products, alternating schedules, multiple applications per day and ingredients we struggle to even pronounce. Consumers are now faced with sky high price tags and scientific facts which, quite frankly, leave us feeling confused and our skin doesn’t seem to be any better for it!
So we thought we’d take our skin back in to our own hands, and shed some light on the best ways to care for your skin in a way which supports your sustainable and zero waste free journey. Here are some of our favourite, easy to follow tips for zero waste skincare to keep your skin glowing.
ZERO WASTE SKINCARE FOR GLOWING SKIN:
STEP 1: CLEANSE
We love…Green + Kind
Green + Kind focus on ethical products that have minimal impact on the environment but are also good for us. Green + Kind believe there are better alternatives to things we use every day and they like to do it with a twist. Their soaps come complete with recycled biodegradable packaging and are nourishing and gentle enough to use on your face. Green + Kind are heavily focused on conservation whether that be marine, animal or the environment.
Their nourishing soap bar contains pink clay to hydrate and brighten, carrot seed oil which is high in antioxidants and rose to replenish and rejuvenate tired looking skin. The bar is packaged in a recyclable kraft paper wrap but there is the open to remove this before you purchase it for a completely packaging free product.
STEP 2: TONE
We love…DIY rosewater
With all of these beautiful natural products being applied to your skin, you may find that your skin naturally rebalanced and you don’t need to use toner at all, but if you do or you love this step in your daily skincare routine try making your own rosewater. We love this simple recipe for a zero waste alternative. Just remember to source your roses from organic and sustainable suppliers.
STEP 3: MOISTURISE
We love…Phaedra Botanicals
Responsibility, traceability and sustainability are at the core of European brand Phaedra Botanicals. Their skincare is produced with organic materials, responsibility sourced natural ingredients and scientifically analysed for toxins and contamination to ensure each product is as good for your health as it is for the planet.
The brand’s founder has a background in marine research so has experienced first hand the impact on plastics to the environment so they use glass as their primary packaging to ensure that further impact on our oceans is reduced.
Their Ex Prūnīs can be used as your daily facial moisturiser and overnight antioxidant treatment. Active ingredients Stearic, Oleic and Linoleic Acids soothe, support and hydrate the skin while Phenolic Antioxidants, full-spectrum vitamin E and Rutin offer potent antioxidant properties.
STEP 4: ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
We love…The Ordinary
There’s nothing ordinary about this skincare. Using 100% pure, 100% colourless, 100% odourless, 100% non-greasy and 100% sustainable plant sources, The Ordinary make skincare using no-frills active ingredients like Retinol, Zinc, Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Salicylic Acid, AHA’s and BHA’s, and most products are under $20.
There’s a product to suit every skin complain but we love the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 for that ultra, dewy looking skin.
