7 ECO-FRIENDLY & SUSTAINABLE BLACK-OWNED BRANDS
In the week that has seen #BlackLivesMatter trending worldwide on social media in solidarity, tens of thousands march in major cities on every corner of the globe to get their voices heard and thousands taking the time to reflect on their own views and have conversations about race with their friends and families, the question now is how are we all going to continue this fight in the long term?
We talked about anti-racism education last week (and if you have done this well done on taking the first step) because this is the building block of understanding the fight against racism and to understanding and how your words and actions have an impact on BIPOC.
The next step is to look at how diverse your life and what you surround yourself with is. Just as you would shop local for your food to support your local farmers, the brands you buy from also have a big impact on Black communities. Take some time to research who owns the companies that you shop from, what their views on racism are, who they vote for and ensure they align with your own views. Another way in which we can all support these communities is by shopping from Black-owned brands directly.
We are all looking to support brands and artisans from third-world countries through fair-trade and shopping small, so be a better ally to BIPOC communities by shopping from their businesses and championing their practices. We’ve compiled some of our favourite Black-owned brands, who have eco-friendly and sustainability at their core, who we think should be on your radar.
We see you, we stand with you.
